458,000 Irish homes have internet access and virtually all businesses in Ireland have access to email and the web (source: CSO Information Society Statistics – Ireland 2003). Web Surveys exploit the advantages of internet-based research without losing the quality of more traditional research methods. This is achieved using specialised software which is fully compatible with our CATI and Data Entry software, allowing multiple research methods to be applied to individual projects with seamless integration.
Surveys are carried out either through a website or using a database. When using the website channel, visitors receive a pop-up invitation asking them to participate in a survey. The invitation can be configured to appear at random (e.g. for every 50th visitor) or when the visitor performs a certain action (such as download a copy of your company brochure). When using a database, respondents are invited to participate via a link in a personally addressed email.
The questionnaire and data are located on a secure, protected server and respondents require no special software other than a standard web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Questionnaires can be password protected to ensure that only authorised respondents have access and to prevent respondents recording more than one interview.
Aside from the obvious cost savings of using a computer as the interviewer, the main benefits of Web Surveys are as follows:
- Results are available immediately
- Can show interactive multimedia material for evaluation (e.g. television advertisements, store layouts, etc.)
- Respondents can complete interview at their convenience regardless of location or time zone
- Ease of access to hard-to-reach respondents such as senior managers or I.T. executives
